Description

One of my first shots with the new camera, taken whilst out by the lake with Alan(artaddict2). Approaching the lake there is a BMX track for the boys and girls to use. In the middle of this track is a small pond and boggy area. Alan and I always stop there first to see whats about. When we first approached the pond nothing was showing apart from a very small frog, then all at once there was an explosion of activity. Damsel flies of all colours were flashing here and there. Green, blue, red and a dull brown all were mating or chasing a mate. Then out of nowhere came a couple of these blue dashers, boy were they fast. We stayed here for a while getting plenty of shots of the damsel flies but unable to get a good shot of the dashers. I suggested to Alan that we carry on to the lake and call back here on our way back to the car. We did a circuit of the lake but nothing unusual turned up, so we headed back to the pond. This time we managed to get some half decent shots of this beautiful little critter. We also saw a female and they did mate, they were over and done before I could focus on them. Lol. #;0) I did get some blured shots of her dipositting her eggs in the water though. I will upload that tomorrow. This shot was taken using a 70-300 Macro Zoom lens at the top end of the zoom, as you can see by the exif data, a focal distance of 300mm. The minimum focus for this lens is 1.5 meters. So this baby was over four feet away from me. The maximum f stop is 5.6. Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make.
