Description

The idea for this piece came to me several months ago, and I've tried more than once to get it from the original rough sketch into something ... I don't know ... more, somehow. Finally this morning I realized I could just scan the sketch (duh)! So ... Real-world paper and pencil sketch Scanned Opened in ArtRage Painted Opened in Photoshop Cropped, lit, fussed with a bit I've never done any painting in this loose style before, but Andrea's work has inspired me to try new things, and Carin encouraged me to post it even if it made me uncomfortable! Then I thought ... "Shoot. I could have just posted the sketch!" So here you go. Both versions. I'll let you decide. I like 'em both! .......... Oh yeah ... I almost forgot ... it's national "Post Your Drawing on the Internet" day or something, so I figured today was the day to do this! .......... Don't forget! Interesting way to illustrate an uncomfortable time. And they used to fit so well. I'd go with the color version: male blue, femme pink/rose.

This is great...I like both versions. I like the colored in and gussied up version for its own merits, but the rougher sketch works perfectly as well...more like an illustration. The painterly strokes work perfectly, adding a bit of extra surface excitement. Great work.

You know, as I look as both images, I see the "breaking up", but it also seems as though perhaps they're embracing, even smiling. I do see strange things sometimes. No matter what, I really like both versions!!

(fake! fake!) (ok that was a personal joke...) I love what you do with software, love the application of paint bands, love the hues & simplicity and esp. the way they fade & wash around the edges. And to me—and I think someone else said this—it could be a coming together too: That is, it could be two people meant to be together, holding each other. Either way, it's delightful. And I think it's the first physical drawing I've ever seen of yours. (Could there be more?) It reminds us of your roots. So nice to see...
