My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!
If I’m missing from Renderosity from time to time, I’m busy having fun elsewhere.
Thanks for your interest in my work, and for stopping by to learn more about me!

Ok, I promise I'll NEVER plant palm trees in Seattle!!! These poor, pahtetic things, yanked from their tropical paradise and plunked down to die a cold, freezing death -there oughtta be a law!!!
lyron
Very cool shots!!

We have the same problem here! Someone on the council thought a few palms would look lovely in the Lower Pleasure Gardens, I think because it makes us LOOK tropical. Not that we often FEEL tropical! Ours probably won't suffer from the weather as much as yours, but give me our indigenous pines any day!

Great shots Tara and I too wonder why people do things like this, very odd indeed
babuci
Good question, I am sure they did not do any research on the nature of these poor palms. Realy enjoyed your narrative wondering on this matter.
PSDuck
I guess you've seen Californication at work. Next, cacti! Just mark those words! Your sentiments are echoed by me. And, palm trees are not cheap, by a long shot.
helanker
OH Yes. Silly and kind of mean too.

I will never equate the reason why man HAS to delve into nature for the betterment of something either cosmetic or otherwise, it so ridiculous to claim you have the ability to force things to develop YOUR way! We see it all the time, not just with these poor palm trees, but with nature as a whole, “Oh I have a great idea to increase the yield of corn being eaten to death by bugs, all we need to do is get the lesser spotted whatever from Utopia, it has a voracious appetite for these bugs” two years down the line and your own indigenous spotted Whatever is also on the menu? People LEAVE NATURE ALONE!!! There that’s my rant over, nice narrative to accompany these shameful pictures auntie. Well your pictures aren’t shameful, the idiots that are trying to do gods work are the shameful ones .

I hope you can follow this with another montage of the same ones after they have expired! Sort of like planting lemon trees in Edmonton; we plant hockey sticks instead - LOL.

Well Tara - it has all been said... it is rather ridiculous!!! Someone once said: "The more I get to do with people, the more I love animals." I rest my case. Lovely pictures of these pitiful palms!!! :)
Faemike55
Great set of pictures! Yeah, sometimes I really wonder about people and their thinking, come to think of it, that's pretty much a full-time occupation, especially when seeing things like this!!!
MrsRatbag
Yes, I agree; stupid thought, and must have been an unscrupulous salesperson who let them buy and transport those trees here. Although, I was very surprised to see palm trees not only growing but thriving in Plockton, Scotland, on the west coast. At least they seemed happy when I was there! Great photo record of man's idiocy!
petercp
Yes I have to agree also! there should be a law to control idiots!!
anaber
And here is the same too...a thought:Is it a need for rapprochement and unity between the human community?(LOL)
moonrancher
I remember thinking the same thing. There was a stand of them along University Avenue when I lived there. I thought the city had planted them, to give the area a unique ambience. They just made it look run down. I didn't know they didn't grow there, because I saw quite a few. LOL.
emmecielle
Poor palm trees... in Sicily we have several, but here the climate is not like that in Seattle! great photos!
flavia49

jocko500

lucindawind
these are wondrful . I love palms .. beautiful captures !

I know it's crazy!!!! Actually someone planted one here in town and it must have been a long time ago cause it's pretty big. Somehow it survives, even the cold winter we just had. Go figure...???
npauling
Ooh the poor things do look the worse for wear. They don't grow here either.
Chipka
That is just wrong, but no more wrong than palm trees in Chicago. Yes, we have them too. I suspect that the people who transplant them OUT of their native environments are the same sorts of people who'd support development plans to raze the Amazon rainforest in order to build a shopping mall, which--of course--they'd paint green for sentimental reasons. Great shot and a piercing commentary on the somewhat disturbing trend of life.
hipps13
at least it got you to stop look and maybe even smile wonderful captures warm hugs that smile, Linda Kaye

The clever people, people with the brains, meeting after meeting to make those money-spending decisions, its ok, if we don't all agree we can all meet again next week until we do lol. Yes they are everywhere lol. Great talking point Tara, nice collage thanks!
Merrylee
I agree WTF...I rest my case
elfin12u
I'd say your point was succinct!! There certainly is no shortage of idiots in this world is there? On the other hand,....we NEED people like this, that's what helps the rest of us to look soooooo good!!!
danapommet
Sad looking palms. I don't know about Seattle, but in south Florida, they run $100 per foot. I bet they were healthy when they left California but were wind burned being trucked north to Seattle. Accurate narrative. Dana

Cool, excellent captures and work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
