Description
"The Clearing" is a image consisting of 2D and 3D elements. Mixing the two I thought might generate some interesting results. The aim was to capture a 3D feel, but also to project a feeling and look of a traditional painting. This image is the first of three planned images, as sort of a trilogy set.
Synopsis/Story:
A brief swim just before dawn in a nearby stream turned into a bit more when a rain storm quickly approached from the east. In an attempt to quickly find cover she discovers a clearing above two trees, which provide a natural cover. Here she begins to notice the beauty and wonder of nature and slips into deep thought. Its these moments in life when nature whispers to us and calls us to be still, and to reflect upon its wonder.
Design:
Model designed in Poser, with post-work done in Photoshop. The image consist of 4 layers, foreground, middle, water, & background.
The 3D elements are in the middle (model and 2 large trees). The 2D elements are in the foreground and background. I painted in the water using Photoshop brushes. The twigs and branches I painted into the foreground area. The backdrop was enhanced in Photoshop and Vue.

Fantastic classical work. First off, who could not be drawn in by this intriguing black and white scene? The swirling, warped waterscape speaks to surrealism and yet it sharply contrasts with the vivid detail of the trees and landscape... this juxtaposition of styles creates an intensity that hammers the senses. Very much appreciate your synopsis of what you are attempting to create and how you are going about it.

Perfect in any way: sepia toning, texture of the trees, unfocused background. Only female figure presented this way is out of the story, at least in my humble opinion! I mean, things that cover her body does not fit the image at all. Anyway, great image!
