Description

Well, yes, sometimes Baroque can get tiresome, when you get an overexposure, like in Rome or Portugal. But the baroque of Lecce (Puglia) or Noto (Sicily) is charming. And the brazilian baroque of Ouro Preto, with the sculptures of the Alejaidinho, was an unforgettable experience. There was an exposition recently in Rome that referred to the backlash against baroque at the end of XVIII century, and the resulting blossoming of neoclassicism. The catalogue's title was "Contro il Barocco" (against the baroque), very documented and well done. From time to time I give some courses, and I used some of the material for a lesson. I wanted to demonstrate the possibilities of 3D, and was impressed by the features of Sketchup as a teaching tool. I used the free version of Sketchup, and the free rendering program Kerkitea (so I could distribute a copy to all the students). The neoclassical building I copied from the catalogue above mentioned. It was never built, but it was simple enough so I could demonstrate the efficiency of Sketchup. From scratch I was able to do it in less than 30 minutes (importing a ready made column and the gilded statue) including the Kerkitea render (above).

Our students use Sketchup in my college. My cars are made with a free Amapi. I use splines. Sketchup is good for Roman, Classical or Neo-Classical buildings. Amapi or Hexagon are better for Gothic or Baroque architecture. I never travelled in Brazil, but I agree for Noto : this is a charming town! Thanks for this dedication : I sometimes appreciate Palladio and his classical successors.

Great work, that's one of the greatest advantages of 3D software - the ability to create things that were never made or concepts for the future.
