Description
Hate to pull the viewers away from my Memorial Day ceremonies series, but I figured you might need a break from that stuff, so I went back into my voluminous files for an old favorite of yours, the lovely and elegant rose. Or at least I think it's a favorite of yours. I never promised you a rose garden, but here it is anyway.
Captured 4/29/09, around 7:20 AM, about .35 miles/.563 kilometers from my place.
On that particular morning the flowers had just received a refreshing shower compliments of the sprinkler system, which was most fortuitous, because with the waterdrops on the blooms, and the sun hanging low above the horizon, I proceeded on a nonstop driven foto frenzy. So these are not the last of the bunch I shot.
These beauties are located in a park on a sizeable garden plot dedicated in 1998 to the members, now deceased, who served in the city's Woman's Club between 1922 and 1997. Hence, the plants receive tender loving care.
I posted this one yesterday, but for some inexplicable and unapologetic reason it disappeared from my gallery, and is forever lost in cyberspace. Fortunately, I had a copy. One can never be too prepared, you know.
A ZOOM would be most advantageous in this instance.

These are just stunning, Harry; the water droplets are icing on an already beautiful cake...I'll bet the smell was heavenly! Great work!

Oh Harry - what beauties! As I was scrolling down, I thought the first one was my fav! Then I saw the second one, changed my mind and then reached the soft pink bud at the bottom... complete decision constipation kicked in... I love them all - that is the easiest way out!!! Excellent collage!!! :)

I wish I had time to see the your flowers in your gallery, maybe I will over the weeks, but these are more than breaks from the Memorial Day shots, they're gems in themselves. More of your bold & flush-forward captures, there is something so direct & communicative about these; yet you also capture the mystery of flowers & how they recede in light & dark, etc. I agree with Jodie about the lighting on #2, but all of them have a mix of light & shade; and you capture their textures and "gestures" very well. I've seen all your rose uploads from my absence, and I'll try to comment on at least one other, but know that they're all gems; and they Show that you wear many hats as a photographer. Tthe funny thing is: Having just viewed some of your Mem. Day shots, these seem related: How, I can't say; but maybe it's because the people you depicted in the Mem. Day series were roses too. Human roses...And btw, I love the loose petal in #5: the kind of detail that makes flowers all that they are.
