Description

I am back in the Namib Desert. This image was taken approximately 100 miles north of Swakopmund. I just loved the flat desertscape with the hills in the background and the fog busy burning away towards the ocean. Now, if you look carefully, you will see a mountain just visible with some clouds around it. That mountain is the Brandberg. Directly translated it means Mountain of Fire. Those of you who read Wilbur Smith will recognize the name from his very famous novel "The Burning Shore". This is exactly the setting for that book!!! I would like to extend a huge thank you for your comments and favs on my last two uploads. Your comments on my close encounter with the scorpion were hilarious and I enjoyed it thoroughly and your comments on my poem and sunset astounded and humbled me. You guys are so kind!!! Take care! Hugs, Carin xx

Very stark, yes, but it does have its own beauty, which you've captured perfectly. Well done!

Hi Carin. I stayed in Swakopmund for a couple of days and went on a balloon flight over the desert to the east. Saw Brandberg up close too and took some sunrise/sunset shots. Great shot, its a beautiful country isn't it !

Once again just an outstanding capture of this magic land. The few weeks that we spent there just seemed to fly by necessitating another holiday this coming year in Namibia! Love the picture....love the photographer!!!

I really have to catch up on your gallery. But I'm glad I saw this beauty. This is a stunning shot, elegant and otherworldly: two of my favorite things. I love the sense of color here, and the sense of vast, unspoiled space. Great work.

Beautiful shot of the desert, Carin. I can see the beauty of this land, even though I am more fond of mountains and trees having been raised in them. But I would love to see this in person just once!
