Description

This magnificent statue is in River Parks, Tulsa, Oklahoma, at about 4200 South, just off Riverside Drive. The tail of the lead wolf is more than 8 feet above the masonry plinth. Our River Parks extend about 11 miles along the east bank of the Arkansas River, and some 6 miles along the west bank south of the downtown area. Despite the length and average 1/4 to 1/2 mile width, The Parks (plural because of sequential additions) are filling up with animal statuary donated by several groups - a moratorium on new statuary is in effect at the moment. The siting of this magnificent statue (think what you will about wolves) is poor. Half-obscured by trees, cars pass within 30 feet (40 mph limit), but drivers rarely notice it. It is more than 100 feet up-slope from the tandem walking and bicycle trails. I despair.

You're right this is a brilliant piece of work. (and excellent photo as well.) While local drivers might not notice it as they go by. you managed to catch the eye of someone in Australia with it.

A pity such a magnificent sculpture is so obscured and secluded. But luckily for us, you've made the intrepid trek to bring back a vision of it. And a lovely one it is too. Beautifully capured and definately a favorite.

Wonderful image. It's a special view for those who take time to see. The placement is interesting, in that we can stare past wolves like that in the wild, too. They blend in. i suspect there's a lot of politics that goes into siting, and artists have to choose between a rock and a hard place most times.
