Description
Hi Everyone, Here is a photo of the flowers on a bush that grows in our front yard. The first glance makes you think of lilac, the odor is very powerful and more like gardenia. The bush blooms weeks later than our lilacs do. It is only about five feet tall and the leaves are very different than lilac as well. Also I was told by the people who used to live here that it was planted as a butterfly bush. I have searched the internet for butterfly bush and the results differ. I have been calling it Butterfly bush in my past photos though I am not convinced yet. I can tell you it is not a lilac. Hope someone knows for sure. Best of day to you all. Thank you for looking and especially to those who have left a comment. -GB-

It is a member of the Buddleia family and they are one of the best bushes for butterflies and the hummingbird, nice capture.

My first guess would have been lilac. Can you get a close up of the leaves? That might help with identifying the bush.

wonderful image!!!!

It is definitely a sort of lilac, they don't all have the same shape leaves. Syringa...there are about 20 species, and then loads of cultivars.

Wonderful shot. Such an old-fashion look to it and the sweet scent is also key to the older plants. Before they were genetically monkeyed with to produce either scent or beauty, they once had both. :-)

Wow the oder is powerful, I can smell it here in NY. Great capture, with luck you can catch a few butterflies and hummingbirds hanging around.

I'm sure these smell divine, it looks like a kind of vibernum to me. Super capture.

Lovely, George! Could it be a Korean dwarf lilac? It still looks like lilac to me. Maybe an exotic type.
CavalierLady
Lovely image... as seems to be the general consensus, I would have guessed lilac, as well.

beautiful shot, I would say a type of Lilac? but like I've said before if it hasn't got a little stick with the name on in the ground next to it I'm clueless!
