Description

The Sturgeon , this fish was 59 " from the nose to the tip of the tail and wieghed in at 44 pounds. IN the past my fish pics have offended someone so i just want to say the sturgeon is a very regulated fish , there once were a time when they were near extinction but with strict rules and regulations they are back in full force here on the columbia river . Anglers are only allowed to keep fish in a very small size range and only up to five per year.I catch and release most all fish i have caught and only keep what we will use . This is my second of the year kept with many many others released.

What a great shot! I love the blues and grays, and the reflection is wonderful. I just went to your home page and browsed your gallery a bit. Did you know there's a Writer's Gallery here on Renderosity? It would be great to read some of your stories!

I can't imagine being offended by something this fabulous! I tried for many years to hook one of these but never was able. Now, they are so regulated it is almost impossible to find one to keep anyway. Thanks to commercial poachers who caught them just for their roe and did not worry about harming the mother or leaving it to die on shore or on board the boat, we lost too many of their population. Commercial poaching nearly lost us all our sturgeon. But we are also under tight "keeper" controls now and one day I'll hook one and get to eat it. This one is really a beauty (and the shot of it too!) Congratulations on both.

These are some of the ugliest fish I've ever seen, but so cool!! The season we have here for them is really short, done in the winter and the number taken is closely monitored. This is a great shot, we rarely get to see one without snow and ice in the background!
