Description

Before the “Main-Landing on D-Day several airborne ops took place.,and I want to honor these paratropps as well, and all their service and support groups. Especially I want to salute the 101st and the 82nd. This article summarizes airborne operations by the United States during the Normandy Landings. For British airborne operations, see Operation Tonga. The American airborne landings in Normandy were the first United States combat operations of Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy by the Western Allies on June 6, 1944. 13,100 paratroopers of the U.S. 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne Divisions made night parachute drops early on D-Day, June 6, followed by 3,937 glider troops flown in by day.[2] As the opening maneuver of Operation Neptune (the assault operation for Overlord) the American airborne divisions were delivered to the continent in two parachute and six glider missions. In the scene I let the transporters come I right over the Flak to continue into the “Hinterland” – behind the lines inside country. Sorry I had to use the B-25 Mitchell as transporter-laugh. I placed some more of the RommelSpargel –or Rommel’s Asparagus here in the water to prevent allied troops to land here as did Fieldmarshall Rommel. Here a map of the DropZone around Ste.Mere Eglise http://www.history.army.mil/books/wwii/7-4/~MapVII-big.htm
