Description

This is classed as a British wild flower. I saw one growing wild with unusually dark coloured flowers. They are normally pinkish to white. This had the classic seed pods ready to burst so I popped a few and saved the seed. I have grown them in pots. This is the first one to have a flower open. I am so pleased it has this rich reddish colour and they look purple when in bud. It may not suit every garden, it grows upto 2 metres high. I have a spot for it anyway!

Stunning. It has the qualities of an orchid and the vibrancy of a cultured garden flower. Outstanding shots.

I believe you'll find it's classified as an invasive non-native species in the UK. They're quite beautiful (I've never seen one this color before!), but they take over, especially in a wetlands habitat such as a streambed. (Sorry to be such a party pooper!) You can check it out here if you're interested in learning more.

How beautiful it is and well worth finding a spot in the garden. The colouring is gorgeous.

Experiment over! After information passed on about how invasive this can be, if allowed to set seed. All plants have been terminated!!

Wonderful pictures of some beatuiful flowers. The one on the right really reminds me of a Georgia O"Keefe painting!!!! Too bad they had to be terminated but I salute your environmental conscience...Still excellent images!!!!!!
