Description

The following is a transcript of the last known transmission from the salvage ship U.G.S.P. Richard Benjamin, Commander Adam Quark in charge. "We've located Station Perma One. The plasma storm that pushed it from its fixed orbit flung the space station into a nearby gas giant. I believe this is why the station wasn't found until now. I'll note that some of the planet's gasses have found their way onto the station, causing a corrosive effect on its interior panels and operational systems. Ship's Engineer Jean has been able to get most of the systems up and running. However, the grav-plating is still down. I've sent Jean down to level 12 to resolve the problem. Only no one has heard from him for some time now, and grav-plating is not working. I'll add everyone is starting to get a little space sick. I'm sure I'll have to send out a search for her. One more matter. Still no clues as to what happened to the station's crew. End transmission. Quark out." I am just having a little fun. I created this render for the last Bryce challenge in May. It's a bit different than the render I posted for the challenge. It took one week for me to render this fully. I don't have a fast computer for rendering. The challenge piece I posted took eight hours to render and was not as nice as this one. Mainly, I wanted softer shadows, which is something my computer doesn't handle too well. The bottom line is I need a new computer. I hear there is good news soon as D.A.Z. will be fixing the bugs in Bryce 6.1. Hopefully, the fix will help with some of my rendering issues. The challenges I have found are a great way to think outside the box and create something I might not typically make. So I would encourage my fallow Brycers to have a look and maybe give it a try if you haven't already done so. The only thing I didn't create in this render is the claws behind the door. They came from the Millennium Dragon from D.A.Z. Most textures were made in PS2 or are out of the box. I have a calibrated monitor for graphics. So if this looks too dark or light, you may want to check your monitor settings. Enjoy Vincent.

This is a well orchestrated, beautifully rendered image which has alot going for it. The lighting is incredibly well-balanced, and the texturing has finely tuned detail for a Sci-Fi image. I love your POV; it conveys a powerful illustration to your story. Excellent.

This is modeled and textured very well. Even though it is lit very well, the lighting does not match the mood of danger or foreboding that I think you're looking for. Specifically, I think you need more shadows/less lighting, some changes to the composition that will guide the viewer's eyes towards the claws on the door. If you hadn't pointed out your use of the claws in the caption, I don't think I would have noticed them at all; they blend too much with the scenery. Otherwise very well executed.
