Tall sunset by busi2ness

I sometimes wonder why so many people find the giraffe such an appealing creature. Here is a view captured at sunset during my many strolls in the bush not wanting to miss a thing in Africa before the darkness sets in. A time which goes totally lost to the camera and in most cases the eye. Night time is a time for sounds and smells and sadly is lost to share.
This dedicated to all you giraffe fans.

Perhaps you wonder about the enchantment because they are so common to you!!! More so like a seagull, rabbit, Mexican whooping llama or gray squirrel to us. Maybe because all you've encountered, are living free and in the wild, or wild like, where our opportunity lies with meeting those, having grown up. raised and fed and gawked upon by humans. You've probably never experienced a random, somewhat thrilling episode with one of these magnificent animals, batting those long lashes, arching that beautiful long neck in for a lingering ki....ok, I'm sure you get the point. All that aside, this is a beautiful shot of the sun, sighing its last breath for the night, more magnificent than what we commonly see on this side of the world. The giraffes presence makes your photo so much more apt for us, it belongs there, and makes the scene better....again, for us! I'm guessing that there was maybe two/three minutes left before all was dark. This really is a great shot!! Thanks much for the share.

I know you don't think you are an awesome photographer, but you're using two rules that are taught in photography, and you do it flawlessly. This is an amazing shot.

haven't been in your wonderful gallery for a bit (have been offline for a while, in fact) and I came here after seeing tara's painting of it: Piet, it's a very articulate near-night shot, you caught details of the giraffe's coat, you caught the striations of the sky beautifully, you caught the balance between light and deep dark beautifully, and the trees feel like chimeras, perhaps because of the focus choices you made. Quite nice. The posture of the giraffe is nice too, you caught him emerging out of the dark. A fine photograph, and it's good to be back here again...

Because it is magestic, Piet--grace, speed, a symbol of freedom...should I go on? LOL! A wonderful share of a time that can be missed entirely in a matter of minutes. Absolutely wonderful!

I am very aware that you are grateful for the opportunity to view this more often than many of the rest of us. But, to me, to look up at a sight so incredible (in person) would be like entering paradise. I would faint on the spot, miss the shot and likely break my camera! lol And... I see you have 22 faves. Nice, poetic work, Watson-speare!
