Description

The second day of my drive to Seattle I made it to Portland, OR. My cell phone battery died and I had to wait until T-Mobile opened in the morning to get a new battery. I had plenty of time to go and see Mt. St. Helens. I had been there before, in 1992 and 2000 and planned to come in from the north. Driving east from I-5 on highway 12 and turning south at Randle. Coming in from the north one can see the devastation caused by the explosive eruption of the volcano on 18 May 1980. Ten miles into the drive south the road was closed, due to 'construction'. This drive went through rain forest like climate, and ponds ad overgrown trees were the norm. It was very peaceful, no cars, but a few birds. So I stopped and took a few pictures, this is one of them. It also rained a little, the only rain I saw while in Washington. This picture was taken on 20 May 2009. Lush green and beautiful in its own right. I visited Mt. St. Helens around 2000 too. Spectacular place. I have some poor quality pictures from that trip that I'd like to replace one day. Sig---will be posting U-505 in Chicago within the hour.

Ohhhhhhhhh ... just looking at this I can feel every bit of tension fly out the window. Such a peaceful, beautiful scene. I love all the green (spring here is so amazing) and the raindrops on that still, still pond are quite soothing. Gosh - I think maybe I'll go put my feet up and kick back for a while!
