Description

Yesterday I went to Mammoth to have breakfast with a friend for her birthday. I hadn't even planned on really taking any pictures, but my friend asked if I wanted to drive up to the lakes basin. We got out of the car to take a picture of the falls and a family was standing on the edge of the lake looking at something. They saw I had a camera and called me over to point out a mama bear and her two cubs on the other shore. Well I got several pictures of them and they started to head away from the shore and head in our direction. I got kind of worried because we had just come from the resturant and had left-overs in my car. Knowing that they could do hundreds of dollars of damage to my car if they wanted to get at that food, I told my friend we should go back to the car in case we needed to drive off in a hurry! LOL:p Well the cubs had decided to see who could climb higher than the other and mama bear strolled slowly in our direction, glancing back every few minutes to see if the cubs were coming yet. So this time afforded me to try to get a closer picture. I have to tell you though, I was not really worrying so much about settings, I had decided to set to auto, because when you have a several hundred pound bear headed straight at you.... you just want to get the shot and get out of there! So you will have to overlook the fact that the quality isn't so great! Thanks for all the comments on my last post!!! Have a great weekend!

She looks like she is wondering what you are doing. At least she stayed there. You're a brave soul.

Great story to go with this image! I might have been in a hurry, too, with a very protective mama bear walking towards me! Cool experience... thanks for sharing!!

I like the sense of being there this one gives me. I have been around black bears with cubs before and treed by a wild hog but have yet to greet a brown bear in the wild.
