Description

Notes on Human Interstellar Society #8: The Study of Clouds Among the myriad planets within the Nemaean Interstellar Realm, Noviy Rostova, is quite-likely, the most intriguing. It is a world, now confirmed to possess an indigenous, tool-using species. We know little of the Rostovans, as they've been dubbed, and what information comes to us must make its way through the byzantine layers of the Nemaean Bureau of Intercultural Affairs. That we know of Rostova and its native inhabitants is as shocking as the presence of recognizable, carbon-based life forms. Perhaps, we have the natives of Byela Leto to thank for this. As we know of them it is likely to think that it serves the Nemaean Stellar-National ego to boast of a second non-human intelligence within the realm of the Nemaean's sprawling interstellar Republic. At any rate, Noviy Rostova exists. Its proximity to the clotted grandeur of The Berens Nebula must render its nights spectacular. Like some ancient tsarina, the blue, cloud0-swaddled world is attended by a quartet of moons. With life on its surface, one must wonder how the complex tidal forces must affect the natives, and what must they think, when they look into the night, lit--as it is--by the clotted veil of the Barens Nebula? What must the Nemaeans think, when they glance in the direction of the same nebula, and spot the pinpoint star around which circles the second planet to prove that we (as water-dependent, carbon-based life forms) are not alone? --Alexander Morten/Personal Journals (unpublished.) ** This is the first space scene/Nemaean render I've attempted since my return to the USA. Most of my starship templates are on my laptop, which remains in the Czech Republic, and so--alas!--there is no traffic in this scene. As I'd been thinking of the Nemaeans off and on during the week (perhaps because of a particular lion) I decided to create something to commemorate them, and to also let you know (for those of you who are interested) that Ilya, Aleo, and Dorianna will return as soon as possible, as part 3 of their tale is itching to find its way here. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and hopefully you're all having a drier, more pleasant weekend than Chicago's weather is permitting at this moment.

the image alone is beautiful, there's a softness to it that's touching & the lights all around it are done beautifully as is the nebular cloud spread, etc. Very fine work, Chip. And then there's another of your log entries, with your usual highly imaginative descriptions, and glances into the possible worlds we haven't yet seen and the connections we don't yet know, but as you do in so many other places, your ponderings are novels in themselves, your power of suggestion is always keen and deep. And it's nice this is still in you, even in your exile to the land of the material gods...that laptop in Czechoslovakia contains jewels, but it's so nice they're still alive and well in you now. And thanks for your wonderful comments Chip, it's always great to see you in my gallery with your endless enthusiasm and penetrating comments (and yes I had LPs in mind and rings of saturn and god knows what, but the most important thing is that you do all you have to for your journey and that amazing gift (or, better, gifts). Just know I welcome you in my little nook whenever you want to come there, and I welcome you here with open arms. (And btw, I made a slight reference to you in my "inner life of a wall" upload...it's silly but a compliment.) Will be back for the lion...wonderful upload and more of your ability to display whole worlds in a few thoughtful verbal & visual glances.

I second Rainbowgirl's remarks. Wonderful space art as always. And another insight into the Nemaean society and all its complexities and rich history. I had to go back and read your past entries for "Notes on Human Interstellar Society" in order to learn a little more about the Nemaean. Interesting that some of this culture's institutions can be called 'byzantine' - a word associated with long standing traditions, static culture and petty intrigues. Nemaeans seem like a society not afraid of new challenges or self transformation. Though this might be about keeping a certain appearance to outsiders. Excellent story and I look forward to more as I go back and read some more past enties.

WOW!!!!! Extremely cool...and so this is the Nemaean universe I keep hearing about? WOW! It looks a bit intimidatingly complex, and cloudy, but super cool! I'll bet their music rocks!
