Description

This is in the Bryce gallery because it was assembled and rendered in Bryce, but I suppose it could as well have been in Mixed Medium. The planet, rings, moons and materials are in Bryce. The asteroid rock is actually a metablob object created in Vue 7.5 and exported as a .obj, then imported and textured in Bryce (Yes, I have spent hundred of dollars on Vue and all I've made that's publishable is a weird-shaped rock. I'm going to have to practice with it real soon now). The astronaut is Major Cache, posed in Daz Studio. The star background was created in Photoshop (another several hundred dollars for CS3), then the exported .bmp was messed with in Paint Shop Pro (don't ask, it was just easier for me) turned into a .jpg and placed on a 2D poster in Bryce. Well, at least I used most of my toys. Thanks as always for all your views and comments. --- "What the hell is he doing out there?" "Standing on a rock. Well, not standing actually, that spike is sort of holding him down." "Yeah, thanks. Got that. Why is the real question." "You're not going to like this. You know that headquarters guy we had to bring along?" "Can barely operate his suit." "Yeah, well, he's a PR guy." "That explains a lot." "Yeah, he's got Stiles out there standing on a rock and looking off at the wonders of the universe." "I got that part too, still haven't answered the question." "It's a photo-op for the new recruiting drive. It'll make a great poster." "I.... yeah, whatever. I'm going to lunch. Let me know when we're ready to do some real exploring."

I like it, hundreds of dollars well spent, IMHO ;) Only nit would be maybe moving the camera a bit so you can see more of that beautiful rock. How did you do the stellar background?

Hey, it's only money, right? As for your recruiting poster, I feel like signing up for a hitch right now. ("I...yeah, whatever.") Cool looking picture!

I know I parked my spaceship somewhere here..!Wonderful use of all your various tools to create this image. Not sure why you couldn't create the rock in Bryce using the metaballs, but hey I've only used Vue Pioneer a coupla times so far so who am I to question it?The ringed planet looks very good,as does the starfield, which I wouldn't have guessed was a 2D plane...nice one!

I love this it is brilliant, not a complex composition which makes it very effective. "I wonder when he will get a lift back home?"

Wonderfully dramatic lighting really sets this image off. Interesting take on a tried-and-true idea. Fine concept!!

"Damn. I knew I shouldnt have had that Starbucks. Not a bush anywhere in sight". Nice work. BTW, you have the Bryce bug and we wont fault you for that. I've worked with vue and tho its nice, I prefer Bryce. Its more user friendly.

Wow, you really drew on alot of tools for this one! I have been sorely tempted to get Vue for a long time, now. As for the other tools, I've never used Paintshop so I can't really speak to that one, but as a graphic designer I'm definitely one to sing the praises for Photoshop. I even think it's worth it for the $1,000 + I spent on the full Creative Suite, not too long ago... Anyway, I love this scene, it's got a real epic, heroic even, quality to it. It just screams "book cover!" all over. Fantastic piece.

PR...ugh! I hate Public Relations and photo ops...I think all PR reps and spin doctors should just be boiled down and rendered into their consituent proteins for use elsewhere! Okay, enough of that rant and my apologies to any spin doctors and PR reps out there. This is fantastic, and it's yet another reminder as to why I like science fiction and science fiction artwork. This is just amazing, and far beyond anything I can actually do, which makes it all the better, because I can simply sit back and appreciate it. This is wonderful work.
