The Days
(in numbers)
the get-together
started slow
the women ordered drinks
the men - tea, water
thirty years, now
this group has become
the old-folks
of our younger days
here, together
celebrations are now,
a bit slower
calmer, quieter than before
we all appear swollen
grayer, slower
but recognizable-still
carrying around all these additional years
I look around the restaurant table
and cannot help remembering
the old folks, (before us) sitting around
the same way, talking, laughing
listening...
.
