Try old age. Sorrow becomes resignation - or leads that way. I've heard it said (a rough quote) "Old age isn't for weaklings." My sister expressed something such in a letter just last week. I decided against writing to agree - some facts are obvious. Over-eating? Big head, small body - he takes in the right things (food for thought)!
