Description

This is the highest single plunge fall east of the Mississippi River in the USA. Sure, many falls are much, much larger. Prior to a dam up stream, who knows how this fall appeared from high water seasons. The water drops about 256 ft. The moderately difficult hike to the gorge below the falls is about 0.4 mile from where the photo is taken. Going down requires some care and coming up requires being in hiking condition or taking a few rest stops on the way. I loaded this photo simply because a wooded land even if spectacular to be a part of...often only provides a nice green photo, green and more green. Except for gorge walls, a bird or wildlife if lucky, a few interesting rock formations and overhangs at the gorges...all looks green on green to the camera. Being there, we see the old growth trees in canopy view, looking down on those. We see second growth forest and hear the water splashing down the rocks. We disturb a pair of lovers on a bluff overhang..as they smile and leave I remind them this is a large forest with many private places. There you are..green with some water in the scene.
