Description

Somewhere over the Urals a flight of MiG21 Fishbeds are on a combat patrol, protecting the Motherland from an enemy who never came. This is Bazze's excellent MiG21 rendered in Bryce. I added the pilot. The second MiG has the number changed, the two farthest ones have had them removed. Can *someone* please give us some Korean War aircraft? Thanks for looking, and the comments on my other aviation entries... much appreciated. Iain

Nicely done! Kinda sad to consider that most of the Cold War arms race was based on lies. Seems that after the war, ex-Third Reich spies were desperate to do anything to avoid being tried for war crimes so they came up with the scam of being in possession of detailed intelligence about the USSR's weapons programs. And unfortunately OSS-turned CIA operatives, equally desperate to serve some kind of function in the post-war peace, swallowed these fabrications and used them to justify their own activities. And of course the Pentagon and the defense contractors (read "weapons merchants") loved these myths and certified them as The Truth. Then decades later, the KGB's records become public and we find out they were puzzled why the US thought they had far greater numbers of weapons and in far greater states of preparedness than actually existed.
