Description
On this photo you see a place near Heidelberg, called the "Celebration Place". It was build in the 30' years by the Nazis. After the 2. WW till the 70' this place was rotting more and more. In the 1970th it was rediscovered by the Hippies. They used it as a meeting place and for free Rock and Blues concerts. In the 1980th the city administration prohibidet the concerts (too much drugs and garbage) and the place was restored. Now it is used for commercial events. Only one time a year 20.000 of people from near and far come here together to celebrate the Walpurgis Night.

Say what you will aboout the Nazis, but at least they could build! The amphitheatre was finished in 1935 and designed by Albert Speer, a bona fide genius. And from Heidelberg by the way. People speaking in their normal voices from the stage can be heard 200 meters away at the back of the theatre. Build on an old Druid place. Soem day I will travel to Heidelberg and walk the Philosophenweg, 'Philosophers Walk' a scenic walking path on the nearby Heiligenberg, overlooking Heidelberg.

Lovely place! Didn't know it was there (of course, haven't been to Heidelberg since 1994). How fitting that it should now be a place for Walpurgisnacht celebrations, somehow.
