Description
Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California.
More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there.
A ZOOM is strongly recommended.
A continuation of yesterday's upload. I furtively circumvented the band as they played on, in the process drawing a hostile annoyed look from the female band leader in the second foto.
Although surrounded by other paparazzo, I always seemed to be the one who was the target for dirty looks from some of the participants at the ceremonies, e.g., a TV camerman, a Sea Cadet and a Coast guardsman. I tried to make myself inconspicuous and was most cautious in my movement, virtually fading into the background, but that still didn't help in avoiding their muted ire and discontent. But that's the way it goes in this era of "get outta my face!" On the whole, though, the majority was most amicable, accepting and tolerant of my foto endeavors and presence.
Of note is the very busy background, the ubiquitous agapanthus at the lower right in the third and fifth shots, and the middle tuba player with his beret askew.
Tallyho.

The agapathus is a great bonus Harry! I especially like the refelctions in the highly polished instruments. Great collage! :)

She certainly does look miffed; oh well, it's her face that's recorded for all time in that pose! I'm not liking these fatigues any better than I did yesterday. They look a bit dowdy. The shots are good, though; the band playing on, instruments polished and shiny as the soldiers' appearances aren't...great addition to your series.

Hooray Harry...I found this band. I began with the shoulder patch worn on the left shoulder and came up with the 300th Army Band. Here is a link to their website: 300th Army Band Great pics today. Thanks for posting.

Nice work again. I know from various tv shows I have seen that Agapanthus grows so well in California.

Good collage Harry. Love the reflection on the brass surface.

Nice collage Harry :)

I don't think the director looks as mad as just plain focused on the job at hand. Perhaps as a band director she wants you to enjoy the music and not so much the scenery. Or she hoped you didn't trip on the Tuba player in your rounds!

It's a shame that in this day and age, people get defensive when they see a camera. But such is life. Nice collage, Harry, and glad Bill was able to help with identification.

Yes, thanks to bill for all he contributed to your Memorial Day shots: wonderful contributions, all. And since Jodie is a classical musician (like me) and has directed ensembles herself (poor soul!), I'll second her comment too. But the thing is, I wasn't at this ceremony; and if you felt the director was singling you out, she may well have been. (But you gotta know: Having worked with conductors—and seen some of the greats—they can throw glances that can melt rafters. Trust me, that's a breed you don't wanna mess with...) Well if you're not a musician, you sure know how to capture 'm, you got all the postures, all the shapes, all the unkempt and kempt, and all the stares and concentrations and looks of controlled boredom too—like on that bass drum player (bottom, front) who's paying attention but who has the look only players get who're waiting for their cue and gettin' a littttttle tired (or maybe from playing the same beat over and over and beginning to think of last night's dinner...) This is a terrific bunch of captures, Harry, which—as a lifelong musician—I really appreciate. My college girlfriend always said, "when you sit at the piano, you become a different person," referring to my 'classical posture'. Well, here you have the different persons mixed with the everyday. Wonderful captures, all. A fav for both uploads.
