Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Love this kind of ambient light shot mixed with good fortune. It's magical, but doesn't stir up Lucy.....something by Stephen King, I think, but which...? Cool picture...cool magic.

I remember that night. This is a great image, and while I was in Prague, I actually heard "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," played on the accordion and sung, at least partially in Czech. My own spoken and written Czech sucks, but I think it's "Lucy do člen určitý oblocha s kára", which might also be WAY off. Anywho...this is a great shot. I love the highly saturated orange and the blur. The trees to the right look vaguely translucent, and in fact, there's a kind of odd repetition that looks as if it's a strobe effect. I like those! The sky is so featureless that this almost looks like an extravagant set piece. Great work, as always.

I can easily see how you got the title, and I love the effect! Wonderful work.

One of my favourite songs. We, that is people my age, forget how revolutionary that album was. We heard eastern sounds in British popular music for the first time, except for perhaps the odd bit of pentatonic in 'novelty' dance music of the 30's. There I go meandering off. Great image!

Oh my!! I have the song stuck in my head now, and can understand the correlation. The shot has an incredible eerie and ethereal feel to it, almost reminding me of a vampires view of the world at night, seeing, like our night vision, only in yellows and oranges, the heat sources as it seeks out sustenance. After reading the other comments, I'm beginning to realize the culture, and time period I grew up in and with, is shared with sooo many others here. Not really sure if I should find some comfort and solace in that, or be very afraid. Interesting pic, I like that instead of just seeing some eye candy on display, we get to enjoy something that also ignites the thought process,...which apparently sets some into overdrive.

I had to look for your other images from your Tangerine Period, and start with the first. My nickname being Lucy, I have had "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" sung at me to an irritating extent by voices that were, to put it mildly, unfortunate. Still love the song though, and can see why it came to mind. I love the bright tangerine trees against the almost black sky. The brightest tree on the left looks like it on fire, with the branches resembling tongues of flame and the black sky with slight shades of red. On the right, the shaking gives the look of reflections in water and a ghostly look. I like the way the shake makes the tangerine color seem to streak out from the bright area in the center. This is another picture that changes interestingly when tilted. Far back, and there is a small field of green with a puddle of blue. As it is slowly tilted forward, volcanic heat turns the puddle purple than fiery red as lava streams out over the landscape turning the tree into a ball of flame. Up a bit further, and the violent scene has returned to a peaceful, perhaps drug induced, tangerine state. Excellent shot! I hope your Tangerine Period is extensive.
