Description

While she rolled wrapped around JS's body, Eve felt the wave of cold fury he unwillingly sent forth. Finally they stopped rolling on the ground, but JS kept her flat on the dirt, repeating: "Duck down and stay put! Understand?" The third time he said the same words, Eve stopped nodding, and repeated: "Duck down and stay put! OK". He kissed her lightly and asked her with unusual tenderness: "Are you fine?" "Yes, I'm OK." she replied. "When one is in a situation like this one, being overcome by emotions is a luxury one can't afford, understand?" JS went on. Eve nodded, surprised that he wasn't angry with her. "You must use your head, Eve" JS added, tapping his forefinger on her brow. Eve looked at him quizzically. "Your mind, Eve. Can you tell how many living people are here?" "I should read other people's minds!" she cried. "Nonsense, we are at war, in case you haven't noticed! Use all the powers you have! I don't think you were given them only to feel whether I'll be with you for dinner. They weren't granted to you only to be killed by a RAT sniper together with an Earthener moron like yours truly!" Eve glanced at him sheepishly and said: "There are five living beings: three Eartheners, me and a RAT". "Other Martians?" asked JS. Eve shook her head: "All dead. Then she added. "I should have realized it before! You're right. Use the head!" and tried to smile. "OK, now be quiet, that I try to get us out of this place unharmed" JS started talking in the earpiece: " O'Malley, M'Buna, are you OK?" JS words reminded Eve of the conversation she had with her mum the night before. "Is he the One?" Mother had asked. "Yes, I don't now, I'd like him to be the One!" she had stammered. "How can you say you'd like him to be?" the older woman had cornered her. "He's an alien, Mum!" "From what I can see it doesn't seem a problem for you. And his exotic look makes him sexier!" "Mother!" a blushing Eve protested. "Aren't you gotten a prude like that bigot of the Old Queen, are you?" "No, but his mind is different from that of a Martian, I don't know if it works, nothing may happen!" "In this case you'll have been with the man you love, which isn't as commonplace as one hopes." "But I could do something wrong, make him harm..." "In this case, it's better you speak to him, tell him the thruth, and try some easy tests. Try to see what happens." "Also Ssahh (Adam) says I should." "I've always said that Ssahh is more sensible and intelligent than that old prude of his sister Queen!" Eve gave herself a mental shake, and said: "Jay." It was the first time she called him by his complete first name. "Jay, if I make you enter the RAT sniper's mind, can it be useful?" "Can you do it?" "Well, I should be able to, but you could..." "OK, if I'll get an idiot, shoot at me!" "Don't joke about it!" "I'm not joking." JS stared at her. "What must I do?" "Make your mind blank, or concentrate on something very pleasant". Eve put her hand on his. JS concentrated on the vision of Eve coming out of the shower, naked and soaped... He heard a giggly sound, and then.... Once again, you've ended an episode on a cliff-hanger...of sorts, because we don't find out what happened to JS's mind, as Eve works on it. Well done. The story takes us from the large canvas of massacre and destruction right into the ultra personal canvas of two lovers. The contrast feels very natural. We see JS's natural protection of Eve, and Eve's perceptions, and her previous dialogue with her mother, only strengthening the sense that she's JS's natural lover. It's nice how you wove that into an otherwise battle-ground moment, surrounded by hell. And you end it with the energies shifting from JS being the commanding presence to Eve (via her mind meld, or whatever it's called that she does to JS). The transition is very nicely done. And you leave us wanting the next episode, by the way you end in the middle of her act... The image shows the two of them next to some protective rocks or ridge, etc, and obviously caring for each other. The slugh seems to bleed green blood---if that's even blood we're looking at. And you have red stains on the other side, in balance. There's a weapon between them (Eve and JS), but it doesn't interfere---it's a necessary addition in battle. A very nicely realized image, focusing on their intimacy, even though we just left a scene of horror that---for it's small size---felt like a vast battleground. Your contrast from last episode to this is finely done. More fine work with difficult material. And btw, the rocks in the image have fine detail. Another fine episode, in words and visuals, Flavia.
