Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Great B&W capture. I don't know how old this bridge is either but that was the way they built them decades ago and if maintained, they are as good as the day they were built. Dana

Very carefully.... An awesome structure; an Erector set builder's dream come true! Sharp clarity and geometric patterns abound in this fabulous capture, Miss Maz!

Okay, this is astonishing! I am TOTALLY blown away. For one thing, I cannot BELIEVE nobody said, "Marilyn! Are you okay?? This is BLACK & WHITE!!!!!" ROTFLMAO!!! This must be a first. Whatever possessed you to DEsaturate this? I mean ... it's fabulous in b&w ... I love it, and you did an excellent job! Did your hand slip? Are your eyes okay? All right ... enough. It really is terrific! Great work!

lol, Tara: Is this really your first b&w? Well even if it isn't, I can understand the response. You're so associated with color, almost everyone expects it from you. You should do this more often: B&W is exquisite, and you did it very expressively here, very right for the bridge & its structures. (The glory of B&W is that you're honed down to tone, pure tone, and of course light & shadow; and it can be freeing in a way—it's why I do pencil or pen work every so often, to commune with the simplicity of B&W. But in photography, ohhhh, you can get such subtle beauty...) You got the feel and lights of these girders, and their criss cross music. And yeah, bridge building is heavy-duty. (Love the "very carefully!" from several people.) When the Brooklyn Bridge was built, lots of people were injured & some died, the risks were so great. Fine work Marilyn, an abstract in lights & darks & space. (Do you know Hart Crane's famous poem on the Brooklyn Bridge? It's a century old, but it's still classic. Here's a link if you haven't read it. If you haven't, just read the first few stanzas: You'll get the feeling: craggy, dazzling and swirling in those high structures. A version ishere. There may be better ones, I haven't checked...)
