Description

New Hampshire’s “Old Man of the Mountain” was made up of five cliff ledges at Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains. This formation was 1,200 feet (370 meters) above Profile Lake, on the valley floor below. The “face” is 40 feet high (12 meters) and 25 feet wide (7.6 meters). Just after midnight, May 3, 2003, this formation crumbled to the ground. This profile has been featured on a US postage stamp and on the back of the NH state quarter. I want to thank Sig (Junge1), for the inspiration to scan some of my older print images. This is my first attempt. No post work. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments & favs. Dana

Great job Dana. I never saw this in person but I felt a real sense of loss when it crumbled. It was one of those moments of...never again can it be visited or photographed...but you've found a way to bring it back. Well done.

Wow, this is great, Dana!! My very first fotos were also scanned; I had no clue what I was doing--you really nailed it. And the subject is amazing; I do remember reading about this.

Ah, it is so good to see the Old Man here on Rendo!! Being a resident of NH, we all felt a great sense of loss when the Old Man 'fell'...it was a great loss, but alas, time moves on and everything changes...even things that seem if they shall always be there.
