Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

I have always thought that a special art the way they sing a story with their hands. It is nice to see the real deal rather than the airport greeters doing the 'touristy' thing on the tarmac.

My coworker belongs to a dance group and they only do Hawaiian dance. She has changed in the last 3 years since she started dancing. It does have an effect on the heart and soul. Definitely a family afair and a way of life...not just a dance.

yes, hula originated as an intimate family & tribal thing, communicating tales through hands and body, very primal & basic. And your shot has that intimacy, and your description is wonderful, it brings us right out of the popular hula and into its real roots. Lovely detail about the grandmother (and yes I can see her imitating hand movements), and nice play of blues & greens against that big bright white fence. Intimate and special, and a wonderful paragraph to go with it.
