Seeing this image on my computer of dead sunflower that I photographed, I don't know why, but I thought "If the sun dies" a novel by Oriana Fallaci.
I tried a few phrases that I noted when I read the book... They are (I have translated the words literally from Italian to English, also help with the dictionary... I don't know if the translation is good and understands the meaning of words, I hope so).
"And if the Sun dies, if the Earth dies, if our race dies with the Earth and the Sun, then what we have done up to that moment dies. And Homer dies, and Michelangelo dies, and Galileo dies, and Leonardo dies, and dies Shakespeare, and dies Einstein, and die all those who are not dead because we live, because we think there, because we carry there within them and up. So everything, every memory, plunges into the darkness with us."

A philosophical and existential thought at the same time! And of cours we may say "and if the sun..."
I'm "addicted" to astronomy, and I remember a photograph of a star that did explode in a novae and in the choc wave image dey were some kind of secondary explosion bubbles, the writer of the commentary told that these bubbles were planets that had exploded by the chocwave of the novae!
And I remember, this day I did say "and if the sun..."

I do enjoy dipping back into your gallery! I love the quote. The accomplishments of man; the glory, the infamy, the sorrows, the sacrifices, and the beauty, all residing in us. It lives because we remember it. If the sun dies, the earth, the memories, all that is lost. It is a great responsibility for us to survive, and to remember. Your translation has much power and emotion. I think it is very good indeed. Beautiful image! I can see why it made you think of a dying sun. Wonderful detail, textures, and light.
