Description

Youngest of five children and the only girl, Sulea was treated more like a servant than a daughter. Her brothers teased her and picked on her when she was younger just like all brothers are prone to doing. One summer day in her eleventh year, they dared her to go into the basement, something that their parents had strictly forbidden for as long as she could remember. Never one to refuse a dare, Sulea made her way into the basement. Finding not a monster as her brothers had said but an older sibling she had never known, Sulea became angry with her parents for hiding him away. Dalvo and Rosha pleaded with her to not tell her parents and, reluctantly, she agreed. On her twelfth birthday she began having strange nightmares, so vivid they blended with her memories and she couldn't tell if she had experienced the things she saw or not. She became a regular visitor to the basement, slipping out of her room to the only person who could calm and comfort her. She was fourteen when her parents died, struck by a freak lightening storm on an otherwise clear and sunny day. Her brothers had all married and moved away, leaving Sulea alone with Dalvo and Rosha. Certain that magic had to be behind the strange event, the neighbors suspected Sulea of being a witch and causing her parents' deaths. Rosha fled with Sulea and Dalvo one night, taking them to the lands of Queen Bellis. The Queen gave them asylum and while Dalvo trained to become a powerful wizard, Sulea studied magic as well. Although spells and potions eluded her (and more often than not ended in an entirely unwanted result) the Queen's only daughter, Princess Ayn, encouraged Sulea to keep at her studies. Soon Sulea's gift showed itself -- she was able to create strong enchantments on objects for a variety of purposes. Most of her enchantments are for protection but she can also enchant an object for a malevolent purpose before Queen Bellis has it delivered to the enemies of the kingdom. Oh, I see that you are already well under way with your excellent story! Ignore my previous inane comments of encouragement! Lovely image, great use of point lighting in the globe to light up her face and hands. That and the candles all cast a natural glow onto the scene.
