Description
Rendered for the Bryce Challenge June 2009 Food and Drink. thanks to all who particiapted and thanks especially for voting this image as the first place winner. This image is modeled in Bryce, Truespace, Maya, and the flowers are from the internet. Lit with a radial and a special greyscale highly uniform hdri for IBL indirect light.
Going for that feeling of a television commercial or other visual advertisement. Maybe the corner diner is running a special?
I'm not completely happy with this piece but the deadline approached and I had to accept it as is. I miss the split along the backs of the shrimp, even a farm rasied shrimp would be deveined. Some other details also are not to my liking but it was a fun project.
No post except for the marking.

Congrats on your winning entry. You're making me quite hungry at the moment. A feast for the eyes, especially the steak and mushrooms. The texture of the bread is very well done and the deviled eggs look appetizing. Excellent work, and a well-deserved winning image.

Even taking a simple photograph of a plate of food and make it look like real food is something of a challenge. Doing it in 3D is so much more the challenge, because everybody knows into the verydetails what food is supposed to look like. This is a good picture!

Overall excellent, lighting is superb and the scene is modelled and arranged very well. The texturing is where I think you wanted to work some more, for example, the steak looks very real, but the mushrooms look like plastic, the chicken leg looks amazing, but the potatoe...hmm.. not so great. Maybe theres to much specular highlights, it makes some of the foods look a bit plastic. The broccoli though, wow, fantastic model and texture, looks so real! Not meaning to nitpick!! Really quality work!

I think Lown nailed it with the specularity levels on some of the food items,and I agree,that broccoli is amazingly lifelike...an excellent image overall,and the modelling is very commendable...congrats on the win!

now I am hungry (LOL) only thing I see is the mushrooms needs better texturing...but hey why should I complain? the whole thing is the BEST, actually the best bryce render I have ever seen excellent!
