Description

I don't really know what to say about this image outside of the fact that I found it weirdly absurd and strangely touching. The picture was made in a pet store window somewhere in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago on April 12, 2009.

There are so many things about this I like. It's got a bit of the absurd, it's kinda surreal, and not a little weird. If I were a kid, I think this would scare me. But then, I wasn't your average kid, either!! I love your city shots, you really find some cool stuff!!

What strange toys! I agree ... they're a bit absurd and more than a bit surreal, and somehow disturbing in a ... rather odd way. You see the most interesting things! I probably would have passed this by. Well seen, and well done!

My dogs would be thrilled with these. I expect they make noises when 'killed', very satisfying. We have so many murders I get the toys from the shop at the tip, as many as one can carry for £1! I love the reflections, I can see a couple of faces.

This is deliciously loopy. You do window shots very well; it's funny how there are so many weird things behind seemingly innocuous windows. Sometimes they're things on sale, sometimes they're just...well...things. At any rate, there's always something, when you look in the right place. As for the toys themselves, yeah...they're quite amusing. Sometimes I wonder though, when they look like this, are they for pet owners as much as the pets? What I really like about this is the fact that these look like characters in one of those late night animated bits of loopy surrealism you'd see on Adult Swim. I really like the reflections too...they're hints and whispers of life around this window, and they add to the just-to-the-left-of-normal vibe of this colorful little tableau.

I really don't know how to categorize this image - which is probably why I like it so much. I'm a fan of strong, vivid colors and you definitely got that. I also like photography for it's "hey, look at this" - pointing out things people may have overlooked and you DEFINITELY got that. Great work, Corey.

COOL!!! Cheri's now rotflhao, She says she remembers these from the eighties! They were a kids toy, that would make a wonking sound as you shook it. Probably taken off the market once children started to practice their newly learned skills on things more animated,....like other kids. I could see why they could re-surface as a pet toy, my brothers dog would likely be thrilled with one of these,...but then probably try the technique on things more animated.....sigh. You certainly come up with some of the neatest Photos to share. Wish I could've shared Cheri's wonking sound with you, on of those, you had to be there moments.
