Description

This handsome fellow is the Burchell's Coucal (Centropus burchelli)! They are more often heard than seen here in South Africa!! They are very shy birds, but have a very attractive, characteristic call that sounds like water running out of a bottle which landed them the name of Rainbird. I have a lovely pair nesting on my property every summer! I hardly ever see them but once I hear them call, I always know that summer has arrived. i have captured this guy in the Kruger National Park and it was still done on film!! Christo, I would like to dedicate this image to you for your support and also for all the lovely bird images you entertain us with! (Doen so voort!) The Count of Monte Christo, I presume. Sterling clarity and colors in this capture of another wonderful species of avian that I've never seen, heard or read of, Carin! I also like the branch and twig array.
