Description

I've hesitated to do this image but then felt that creating it would help me through the night. It was ten years ago when I fell in love with a beautiful black tom cat in the local animal shelter. He then lived there for at least 10 years, nobody knew it exactly. So I adopted a cat that was at least 10, maybe 11 or 12 years old. It took us a while to become friends but once he accepted me he stayed by my side, allowed me to hug him half to death when watching handball, didn't mind to get a wet fur when I had to cry, gave me comfort when I was alone and moved to 5 different locations within 10 years. He always hated driving in a car but nevertheless was the first "item" I found in my moving boxes. He decided that we will keep Leo when he visited us the first time. The fact that they where both dressed all in black and Leo even had some black fur here and there definitly helped them to see that they where one of a kind. He raised our younger tom cat Leo found outside and was always there beside my graphics tablet on my table or above our pillows. And when no one else heard me I called him my "lovely black prince" as he was such an elegant and polite cat - his everyday name was Willi, a short form of William/Wilhelm. Four years ago he got a glaucom. Nevertheless he climbed and jumped, took milk out of every glass with his paw and most of all stayed the lovley black prince with the gentleman attitude. During the last year he obviously became an aged cat, loosing weight, walking slower and we began to prepare for what will come. Yesterday he decided that it is time for him to stop eating, he slept a lot and on early Tuesday morning I held him in my arms until his little strong heart finally stopped beating. The other cats sat there very quietly and watched what happened. They still wander around throught the rooms anyway and it will take a while until they begin to forget. In the evening Leo burried our dear little friend on a hill nearby where we sometimes watch the fireworks on New Year's Eve. We are grown-ups and so we are sane enough to tell ourself that this is the best way for an animal to die: Home, without fear and pain. But we are not used to the fact yet, that no obsitnate aged tom cat pulls on our sleeves and trousers to get a hug, food (human food was always best!) or being lifted to the working table when he could no longer climb up. There's a little black hole in our life at the moment. So if I didn't comment or write back during the last days you now know what I did. ...I am not good in doing such sentimental farewell-renders so I am not sure about the artistic quality of this picture. I hesitate to add credits here - but on the other hand the beautiful candles and drapes inspired me so that it was easy to create this scene. If someone has any questions on the techniques: You are welcome to drop me a line - but I am not in the mood to pick this image into pieces with technical details.

A render from the heart is always a true gift just like the love you and your cat shared. Not gone just to a diff place but in your heart and mind always there in good and in bad. Nicely done

At my home I have three bunnies and my girlfriend has another two cats. I, too, am terribly afraid of the day when first of our furry friends leaves us. I feel with you.

Lovely tribute, and lovely story. I feel for your loss. 20+ years is a very long life for a cat, and Willi has had a very happy life and loving one. I miss my cats too.. very much..that friendly purry 'person' that greets you when you get home.. and ours have all been animal shelter/SPCA cats too. But old age is something we cannot escape. We gave them the best life we could, as you and Leo have with your "Prince" so there is some solace in that, and the memories are good comfort. Take care.

As I told you yesterday... he is there in the Heaven´s door waiting with no rush the time he see you again, without glaucome, without any disease or even, without age. I am sure he is with Asdrúbal, my "tangerine" cat from the old 80's... So, raise his milk bowl and say "good morning" because he is there in some corner... And well I feel really happy to see that those small lights guided him... you are in my heart, Meike.

You had yourself a special cat. Sounds like he passed in your arms... My sister had cats growing up, I always got a dog... her cats would disapear when they got old and my Mom said cats are known to wander off when it's time to die - I've known of a few cats that do that, so you should feel the animals love big time... Last cat I had, was torn in half by two stray pit bulls. I understand how some pit bulls can have great owners and they are beautiful dogs, but I see it them that they have a mentality that is unlike any other dog and I've had lots of dogs. Best dog? Yellow Lab - Golden Retriever.
