Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

I remember that night! I think that Pilsner Urquel is one of those things that makes Chicago entertaining...especially since...well...it's Czech Beer. Pivo! I love that stuff...and it's even better to actually drink it AND see a cathedral I'll never go into unless I'm taking moody pictures. This turned out incredibly well. It's highly surreal, and I love the way that the intensity of the light makes Saint Ita's look almost...well...superimposed. Funny how that cathedral keeps popping up (though it hasn't made it into one of my posts yet.) The POV is weird. It doesn't look like you're laying down, drooped partly over the curb. It looks more like a bug's eye view of some bizarre landscape. Great work

Inspired composition! It's incredibly powerful and the lurid colours add to the weirdness.

This is brilliant! Such an ordinary thing, to see a signal pole and a building, but you've turned it into a surreal experience, filled with wonder and ... well, gosh ... I just can't stop looking at it!!

Most excellent! And I'm sure no one in Chicago thought your laying down under the signal light too bizarre either. Wonderful inspiration, and don't just blame it on the beer. : )

OMG, I'm gonna get arrested one of these days, cuz your fotos totally inspire me to look for some great POV's and angles and ideas--this is AWESOME!! It also completely makes me want to get there and hang with you guys--picture this: late one night, after well, whatever finds its way into our systems, and BAM!! there's this place, who knows what, and all of us find some different way of seeing it. You're on the ground, Chip's probably writing a story, Tara's finding one little piece of something and I find the thing with the most color. Then the cops come and we try and explain ourselves.......

This makes for a wonderful POV; excellent capture!

This is a great POV. The old walk sign reminds me of an old derelict space station. Welcome to Star Trec. Gives me the feeling of floating in space.

Almost the same point of view I seen soo many times, while crawling home from the Thursday night summer concerts. I've never had the camera with me, but even if I had, I doubt I would've had the presence or ability to take the shot. Laying on your back at 3am,.......cool stuff!!
