Description

Something uncommon from WW2. Texture finished and posed against a fanciful Bryce backdrop. Perhaps its not high on everyone's list of "must-haves" but when I first saw photos of this unusual machine I knew I needed one for the light carrier I'll eventually model. So I had to model it- and I'm still on the learning curve there. I offer it up here because I think the machine itself belongs in a movie- in a car chase through a narrow ravine. It certainly looks like something that would come after Indiana Jones... And, I might even have a crack at a chase scene myself. Apparently the Kayaba Ka-1 was the first rotor-wing aircraft to see combat- as an artillery spotter for the Imperial Japanese Army, and later in an anti-submarine role. It's not a helicopter- from what I understand the rotor of an autogyro is unpowered, so I suppose its like a windmill ...with attitude! (the phrase "On a wing and a prayer..." comes to mind). Modelled in Shade 7LE and rendered in Poser 6. The texture uses bump maps to reproduce the corrigations on the side of the fuselage. The pilot and observer use Michael 2, with the RDNA aviator cap and goggles plus a bit of postwork in Painter 8.

Well done..... Something a little different for once! Good to see someone branching into something new... Of course, because it isn't a mustang or F-16, you won't get comments... I like though. Rob.
