Description

Another day, another Dragonfly, lol. This one has assumed a position called "oblisking". Some Dragonfly species do this to help regulate their body temperature. They arch their backs and point their tails towards the sun to minimize the surface area of their bodies that is exposed to the sun. Tomorrow's posting will show a new species for me. BTW: I have just started to attempt shots without using the flash. During May and June, I used it on almost every shot. I have been using it at (-2) flash compensation to help fill in shadows. I made a diffuser out of a piece of plastic milk jug to help soften the flash and eliminate hot spots in my images. It has worked out well. Unfortunately, my D40X cannot use a shutter speed faster than 1/200 sec when the flash is used. I have decided to see if I can use other settings to help with the shadow problems and increase the shutter speeds because I want to get a shot of a Dragonfly in flight. I have managed to do this a couple of times but 1/200 sec is not fast enough so none of them have been usable. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

Cool shot. and best of luck with the new settings. I think most cams are limited to 1/200 with the flash. Look forward to more pics.

Superb! I had no idea they did this, it's probably unnecessary in our climate.
