Description

Looked out my kitchen window this morning and here she was 10 feet away on the wire (she keeps returning for improved, closer sittings). ...... Mourning Dove. Zenaida macroura. L 12" Trim body; long tail tapers to a point. Black spots on upperwing; pinkish wash below. In flight, shows white tips on outer tail feathers. Juvenile has heavy spotting; scaled effect on wings. Call is a mournful oowoo-woo-woo-woo. Wings produce a fluttering whistle as the bird takes flight. Range: North America's most abundant and widespread dove, found in a wide variety of habitats. Thanks for all your fine comments and favorites. What a pleasure for me. Do ZOOM...a big bird with a lot of detail in the feathers. Bill:)

Why, Bill! I think she likes you. That's a rather coy little look she has there. :) Such a flirt!

another beautiful bird shot, very classic, beautifully isolated and cropped. It seems to be tilting its head, but you got it with no visible motion, as if it posed for you. And your deep green background is a fine undulant 'screen' to set her off. Really fine, bill. I know I haven't gotten through every image yet, but everytime I get a little closer, and this is a beautiful place to stop for now. Full-view (and I always see that way) she is delicate and beautiful. And I didn't even notice she was standing on a wire. She keeps coming back for better poses? That's considerate. Maybe we'll see more of her. Beautiful.
