Description

I've been knocked out, so I wasn't here for a day. I'll comment again tonight... But! I decided to upload an old design this morning. This was from a set of card designs: I used shiny blue posterboard & erased it to get "nap". Then I drew with colored pencils, then highlighted with chalk and---you ready? "KorecType"! Yep. I, who had no shame, ran out of watercolor so I used "white out". For those of you who don't remember "white out," it was this goopy stuff you used to cover over mistakes on white paper. I know, Rembrandt never used white-out---but hey: What did he do that was so damn good??? I cleaned out the scratches in PS 'cause it looked like a car ran over it. (Which will be the subject of my next piece, btw)... * * * * * * I'll be back to your work tonight (I just needed to rest). Have a great Tuesday! Mark

very fine image mark, and, as they say: the result justifies the means :-)

As I read what artists do...being inventive with materials sounds like a big part of coming up with something new and different. Rembrandt would have used "KorecType" but his local Walmart was out of stock. This has a beautiful feel to it...must be the chalk dust and nap.

White out, eh? Well, why not?? If it works - it was meant to be. Stunning in contrast and in texture. The faint line at the edge where the image meets the darker blue is very neat, esp. zoomed in. Simply marvelous!

Mark this is such a splendid work of art and has such a distinct texture. You really have outdone yourself on this one as it honestly looks so much like a light has caught it just right thanks to the magnificent glow you have the appearance. Of course I remember the white out as I am the one who must clean it out of the copy machine at our company every time someone tries to sneak a piece through with the gooey stuff on it. lol

Well I won't say 'stunning' as it might seem to be a tad bad taste if you mean you were actually 'knocked out'!! It has never occurred to me to purposely raise a nap on card, although it's happened often enough. I remember the stuff, and I still use a stick of it for the occasional Sudoku or crossword mistake!! The result of all your work is hovering in space. Love it!

Very creative with a lovely texture. I've certainly used white out. I'm so glad the days of typing (and making art) on a computer with instant erase are here. No more looking for the little bottle only to find that the white is all dried up and the brush is hard as a rock. Sounds like you had a tough time yesterday, but are recovering. CC

A lovely soft image; it seems to be done on velvet! Beautiful lines and movement. Rest up, please!

  • blink blink * Oh, I just erased this and then ... * insert naughty word here for emphasis * I could do that. I could erase the blue off the posterboard. I could. But when I was done, it wouldn't look like a FLOWER!!!

I enjoy seeing how you use familiar things in new ways. White out used to be my close friend. Thank god for copy and paste. It's encouraging to know white out can be recycled into flowers. (At my house it would turn to stone.) I like all the effects you achieved and appreciate your telling us about the materials you used. Well done.

Ultra stellar in application and concept, Mark, especially considering the fact it was done immediately after you got out of bed. Splendid light, shadow and terrycloth effects in this one. And, of some note, "white out" was invented by the mother of one of The Monkees, a singing quartet from some time ago.

and now to you, mark :) i hope i can manage to be around in august more often again, but have to leave for now again. thats quite too much to do nowadays to keep a job or 2, the crises adds to that a lot, i feel that each month, like growing and growing. however, i love your drawing a lot, the soft lines are so typical a mark as i have seen before in some of your other drawings and i always am so delighted to see them again! this is a typical part of you, besides your colourful realms you are really wonderful at drawing too, enjoy each of them all the more because they often tell about the little things. what else to say, just love it, love the blues as well, mark! until later, i wish you love and peace and most of all, lots of health! take care, mark, and i see you around later :))

Rembrandt never used whiteout (tippex in my country) because it hadn't been invented yet! All materials are fair game in the hands of a true artist... which you are!

Well, all your skills in this splendid image. Really very nicely done! I used to do drawings with charcoal pencils and dumps those "white outs" you speak about were done with a normal rubber... our teacher had a splendid technique for that, so the highlighted parts always looked fantastic ;O) That's been for ages I haven't done one of these drawings, he he.... Take lots of care Mark ;O)
