This bug was hard to see. I'm not sure what type of insect this is.

It is the molting of a Cicada, those noisy buzzing bugs you hear every summer. And yeah they are kinda ugly before they molt.

Oooh, this looks like the cast-off skin of a cicada nymph...at least the bit of white that resembles string tells me that this is the shed skin...I could be wrong, but when live, their eyes are generally red, like an adult's. I love these things, I used to try to catch them as a child, but they have a way of not being around when you're actually looking for them. Their claws look imposing, but they're mostly for grasping onto things like roots. Great shot.
