Description

A botijo is a package or container of clay, porous, with a wide belly to give capacity and one or several holes of entry called mouth on the fills and one or several of departure called pythons or spout (there are differences between regions) on the drink. The botijo is a typical element of the Andalusian culture. In fact, hardly we find a region that does not have their botijo, which will vary in shapes, colors, ceramics etc. The principle of operation botijo is as follows: the water filtered by the pores of clay and in contact with the dry environment outside (characteristic of the mediterranean climate), evaporates, producing a cooling (2.219 kilojoule per gram of evaporated water). The key to the cooling is therefore in the evaporation of water exudate already that dispels the thermal energy of the water of botijo. Gracias por su comentarios en mi imagen de ayer:

I find these jugs to be fascinating. Many cultures have used them too and I have a couple from early cultures here in the US and Mexico. Wonderful shot and information.

Fascinating. We have a ceramic wine cooler that keeps a bottle of wine cool using this principle.
