Description

A display of symmetry...join me for a gaze, won't you? Looks really good full size. The aircraft is a Grumman HU-16B Albatross and is classified as a flying boat. It was originally designed to fulfill a requirement of the US Navy for a search and rescue airplane that could land in the open ocean, on land with wheels and on snow with skis. Location: National Museum of the USAF, Dayton, Ohio. Link: Grumman Albatross Thanks for stopping by, Bill:)

Shades of the Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina! Stellar sepia tone-like lighting effects in this marvelous symmetrical focus-sharp shot of the Albatross, Bill! Is that a radar dome type element on the nose?

wow that does look like a hybrid between aircraft and boat, an intersting and fine shot, Bill

Fantastic capture Bill. I know that they don't leave a lot of space for photographers to get great shots like this. Dana

beautiful piece, both symmetric yet varied on each end (in hue, shade, etc.) Symmetry is tough to my eyes, because the sameness has a way of taking over one's efforts (that's how it feels in drawing/painting, at least). But when it's done well it can sing. This is beautiful because you got such sheen in the shot, because the presence of the beast is massive yet strangely air-thin, and because your light quality is truly beautiful. Another beauty from your air-museum series, and a pleasure to look at.

They called it "Goofy" here, and they were flown for coastal surveillance and later for firefighter patrols. Were withdrawn in late-80ies after a series of engine trouble.. ---------------- Nice pic, btw. And they were actually much smaller than the perspective of the technician suggests. P
