Description

"Daddy Longlegs" seem to like roses (maybe he's waiting for something tasty). This rose is "Cinco de Mayo", which is a new variety here.

Actually it is Cinco de Mayo. If he's hoping for a butterfly, he'll have a long wait! He stands out like a sore thumb and they'll spot him pretty quickly. The Goldenrod Crab Spider is much better at it, they'll hide in the blossom and sometimes change colors to match it. Your fellow actually is not a spider, despite having eight legs where most insects have six legs. It is a Harvestman (Phalangium opilio) and is likely scavenging for very small prey or dead plant parts, so perhaps he is looking for aphids.

You are right Whaleman. I checked, and Daddy Longlegs is not a spider, and has moved on. 18 blooms on that rose bush today!
