On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

So THAT'S what it is, thankyou for the link, Bill. I still prefer 'tight and sharp'...."I'm just an old fashioned girl.." (bursts into song)

Nice photo Bill, But where's the birds ;-) lol. Nothing like learning a new skill and art technique... Well Done!!

So that is what the technique is called! I have done it before on slide, a double exposure on a tripod, the second slightly out of focus. http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1215237 The movement cause by a breeze just adds to the effect. Well done, Clive

Great effect going on there Bill, the orton is great for water colour effects too with heavier blur.

Interesting work, Bill.

Looks good! I tried the Orton effect a while back ... it was fun to play with! (Glass globes, as I recall.) I like the sort of "architectural drawing" vibe you've gotten with this.

Very interesting, and I'm sure you expended a lot of time and work into this effort, but I echo Andrea's comments in this instance: tight and sharp, Bill, except that I'm just an old fashioned guy, and not a girl.
orig_buggy
I'm going to have to try and learn some of these new effects

You know me Bill! But then MOST of what i deal will, requires pin Sharpe if you can get it... But, always give things a go, thats what I say. And , good on you for trying it. It's NOT unpleasant! Lol. Rob.

I'm familiar with the Orton Effect; though not being a photographer, I've never applied it. But it creates this strange sense of softness, of inner shimmer; and you got that here. It's also vaguely reminiscent of those old 3D contraptions, when you look in the viewer. It's an intriguing shot in its own right, isolating a few of Chicago's well-seen towers against a bright blue sky. Always nice to see you try new things here, you always do them with real thought & care.
