Description
Before I got the D40X, I used a Coolpix 7900 pocket camera. It is a great close-up camera for little bugs. Most of my shots with it are taken within 6" of the subject. I had to walk slow and look close to see most of them.
The D40X I am now using has changed the way I take pics. That is mostly because I am mainly using the 200mm zoom lens. The ability to be 6' away (instead of 6") from the bug and get good details is a new experience and I am still learning. I now look for bugs I can see from 6' but that excludes most bug shots, lol. I also spend much more time in one place than I did before. I used to walk - see something- take a few shots and move on. Now I find a comfortable spot and take multiple shots of whatever I happen to see. As it turns out, Dragonflies and reptiles can easily be seen from 6' so I have a lot of those but I also keep my Coolpix in my shirt pocket for those occasions when I happen to spot something small where I have decided to sit.
This is one of those.
