Description

First of all sorry for not being very active in commenting on your photos. I have been busy lately and I will be the times to come. Yesterday and today we stayed in a village called Rockanje. We did several walks but this morning I went all by myself for a short walk in the nearby dunes. And I did not regret that decision for a moment as was able to come very close to a roe deer. I think the roe deer was curious about me either, cause one moment he approached me in stead of the other way around.. and at that moment it was bending it's head downwards, while looking at me.. Anyway.. in a short period of time I saw the roe deer at least five times.. From Wikipedia: The European Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) is a deer species of Europe, Asia Minor, and Caspian coastal regions. There is a separate species known as the Siberian Roe Deer (Capreolus pygargus) that is found from the Ural Mountains to as far east as China and Siberia. The two species meet at the Caucasus Mountains, with the European species occupying the southern flank of the mountain ranges and adjacent Asia Minor and the Siberian species occupying the northern flank of the mountain ranges. Within Europe, the European Roe Deer occurs in most areas, with the exception of northernmost Scandinavia (north of Narvik) and some of the islands, notably Iceland, Ireland, and the Mediterranean Sea islands; in the Mediterranean region it is largely confined to mountainous regions, and is absent or rare at low levels.

Yes, isnt it just fantastic to have eye contact with a roe? We have many roes in this area and we see them often. Right now they have such wonderful red brown fur. A very nice capture.

As your fabulous photo shows, they are one of the more delicate of the deers. A very magic shot that touches the heart.
