Description

I have seen this species every year since I started taking Dragonfly pics but have only managed to get 1 so-so shot in 5 years of effort. They seldom perch. This situation changed this year. I have managed to get a number of shots of males and of pairs mating. I guess persistence finally paid off, lol. There are 7 North American Dragonfly families - Petaltails, Darners, Clubtails, Spiketails, Cruisers. Emeralds, and Skimmers. This is one of the Darners. In fact, it is the most common and widespread Darner in North America. It is found in all 50 states and southern Canada. It is the only North American Darner that lays eggs in Tandem. It is about 3" long. Two more examples to follow and a little later some pairs laying eggs. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

You are so good, Lee. I don't know how you tell one from another with such finess. I usually refer to them as the red one, the blue one, the one with muddy tips... and forget if they are male or female...! LOL This is great and I have no doubt you will share more of his kind with us.
