Description

Just testing a new waterfall mat I've been playing around with. This is only a short test, it actually goes a lot longer without repeating.

the effect of falling water is good, but not for a waterfall. In a waterfall the fall is not so evident is nearly invisible, try to use 2 different terrains moving with 2 different velocities. The inner part of the waterfall moves slowly than the outer. Hope it could help. You made a good job.

You might be right about large waterfalls, however I view this as a very small scale drop - maybe 8' or so. There are no terrains used in the water, you are seeing a torus with a 1 radius, flattened out and spread wide. Only one quadrant of the torus is showing and the only thing animated is the texture which rotates. Appreciate the comments.

I think the effect is very very good! I have seen many times in waterfalls this fluctuations. Please, Is there any possibility about you teach me how to do the same? Congratulations

i have had trouble just doing a decent waterfall for a still. but your idea for using the torus is great. your brief discription is about all the tutorial i need to at least give it a try. keep up the great work!

This animation is 28 frames, 499kb. I actually did a 75 frame test and the texture was halfway around, so it should go for 150 frames ( 10 sec. at 15fps ).The material was made in photoshop. I started with a tileable photo of a lake water surface , close up. I darkened up some areas and then darkened the whole thing. This I used for a transmap and also for the bump map. This map is stretched around the torus I described earlier. Then the texture is rotated over time around the surface. The key is the transmap which lets you see thru parts at diferent times. Hope this helps. Maybe I'll post the materials in free stuff if anyone is interested.

:o--- lets say. this is good, and make excellent small waterfall. but for something bigger i recommend other technique, as when falling water reaches certain speed, it breaks apart due to air drag, and creates white opacious "clouds". Way you modelled it it can be i vacuum, trough. and think what? then steam of water should be thickening with depth, due to it increasing speed, just like when you open tap. :/ yeah, adnd dont take it as critics, i just dont know when to stop once i begin :D good work. Brice is difficult. (at least to me)

Outstanding! Best waterfall motion I've seen. I have found it very difficult to make as realistic as you've done.

For the scale you are trying to achieve, I think this method is very effective! - well done!

This is excellent work. Very convincing. Probably looks even better in full colour rather than restricted to 256 or less.
