Description

Knock knock. Who's there? Interrupting cow. Interrupting cow wh... MOOO! I know kind of silly I saw it in a movie recently called Half Nelson, pretty good movie by the way. Anyways this photo reminded me of a that joke. I promised Bill ( bmac62) that I would share a few tips from class so Bill this is for you and anyone else that wants them. Our first class was Intro to Digital and we basically went over our cameras the buttons, settings what they do, which to ignore, such as in camera editing their advise there was not to use it. Because the camera in most cases saves the edited photo and no copy, so then if you try to edit it on your computer you won't have the original to work with, so I agree with that. In the next course Organize, Print, Share we went over how to organize our photos, how to save them where to save them. A few tips there were: First of all always SAVE your work, not just on your computer, how many of us have lost work we didn't save I know I have and its heartbreaking to lose a whole day or months of photos. They advised to save them three ways and while it sounds awful time consuming if you are consistent with it, it really isn't. 1.) save them first on a disc we were advised to use Verbatim +R DVD's and were told to stay away from Memorex that they are basically nice coasters LOL. 2.) Then to save them on a flash drive. 3.) Then lastly and they highly recommended this was to purchase an external hard drive and save all work on that. I checked around you can purchase some decent ones for around $70.00 to $100.00 US dollars. Another tip we were told is to NEVER use the USB cord that comes with the camera but to use a card reader, which looks very similar to a flash drive but you insert memory card into it and then into your camera, reason being is that the camera can malfunction or if your batteries are low while transferring it could cause you to lose some of or all of your photos during transfer, the instructor said he did it once shot a wedding and lost them all, lesson learned. Well there are a few tips some I am sure you have heard before, but if not I hope they help someone, oh one last tip we were told, carry a cloth diaper or two with you should you take your camera to the beach... why... you ask one to wrap the camera in to absorb moisture and to protect it the other you can use to clean the camera, because the fibers are so soft.. LOL Thanks for your views and comments of my recent work I really appreciate you all. thumb_1922957.jpg

Awesome tips, I have them on a disc (DVD+R+W) not memorex because they do make great coasters (that includes the Music cdr), I have them on flash drives, I don't have the external yet but I have been telling Dave I NEED one. I didn't know about the USB, but the camera malfunctioning and losing the pictures is a BIG fear, I don't have a card reader, but I always make sure I have newly charged batteries and the display is showing that they are full. So then I just pray to GOD it doesn't malfunction and hold my breath until I can't take it and need to breath. Very good tips awesome. Hey how come he listened when you said it? ( about the three must of storage)

Wonderful photo and you such a good soul to share what is going on in your class. So far I do all what you mentioned...I would be interested thou which buttons we can ignore on the camera. I thought they all have purpose in different modes.

Cows seem to have such a blank stare no matter what. I wonder if that means they are always happy? bored? uninterested???? Love this up close shot. And the hints are good ones.

I like your cow, and the joke! I am always suspicious about any one type of CD being bad. I've used hundreds of Memorex as well as others without any problems, but I HANDLE MY CDS VERY CAREFULLY! I also store them carefully and never write or apply labels on the top surface as it may take years for chemicals to leech through to the underside of the top surface where the data is actually stored. There are very high standards in CD production too, and a few minutes watching other people handle CDs will tell you why they experience failures. Recent research has suggested CDs should last at least 200 years if handled carefully. Film, on the other hand, will shrink and distort even under ideal storage conditions. Also, I always use the USB cord! Simply because there are fewer terminals than the flash card itself, and those terminals are far more robust. You are more likely to experience failure by moving a CF card in and out than by moving a USB cable in and out, and a USB cable failure will not harm your data, just delay your access until you buy a new one (which is also cheaper than a CF card). I am anxious to use your joke on everyone who sees me over the next few days!

Charming picture! Always save one backup outside the house, ie on a computer in the clouds somewhere. There are lot of places for example but not limited to, MS free skydrive.

This is a great capture Lynell and postwork, I love it!! Thanks for the tips, I was wondering how you were getting on in your classes. I use a Sony DVD-R, so I am assuming that is okay, but what is a flash drive? Sorry for sounding stupid but I am not technically minded. Anyway thanks for the tips and glad you are having fun with your new camera, hugs Jane xxx
